Staying faithful in the midst of a storm

October 28, 2016

If any of you have ever lost someone, went through a horrible break up, or maybe you lost your job and you don’t know how in the world you are going to survive, then you have struggled. Everyone has struggles and everyone has moments of doubts and wonderings.  We wonder why on earth God would be giving us this seemingly impossible task and we struggle to find hope that God’s got this. I know because I’ve been there too, it’s hard. It feels like there couldn’t possibly be a reason for this to happen and clearly God doesn’t love you since he let this happen; but friends you are wrong. The same God who knew this was going to happen is the same God who is going to carry you through this storm. I know that right now, it might seem impossible and it might feel like your whole world has crashed down around you. I wish I could give you the reason and answers as to why God would allow you to go through this, but I can’t.  The reality is we won’t understand until he lets us, whether that is a few months down the road or once we are standing in front of him. Staying faithful during this stormy season you are in might sound easy on paper, but how can we ensure that we are going to come out of this trial with a stronger relationship with God? Here are 11 bible verses that you can read to help you stay faithful in the midst of a storm.

1.  “And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.” 1 Peter 5:10

2. “So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold- though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world” 1 Peter 1:6-7

3. “I will be your God throughout your lifetime- until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.” Isaiah 46:4

4. “The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength.” Isiah 58:11

 5. “Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.” Romans 8:18

6. “Don’t worry about anything, instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:6-7

 7. "Jesus replied, ‘you don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.” John 13:7

8. “He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, brining honor to his name.” Psalm 23:3

9. “Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s” 2 chronicles 20:15

10. “Cast all your anxiety on him, for he cares for you” 1 Peter 5:7

11. "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,  when you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance" -James 1:2-3

God tells us right there in James 1:2-3, that we will face trials; he does not say if you face trials, he says when. It will happen to everyone, trials are a part of life. We also will not just face one trial. He tells us that we will face trials of many kinds! But we are to consider it pure joy! Wait what? Why would I have joy in the midst of a trial??? I thought the same thing. We are not supposed to have joy because we are going through a trial, we are supposed to have joy because we know that there is a reason for this trial. If we never went through trials or our faith was tested, we wouldn't need and depend on God. He is close to the brokenhearted and rescues those whose spirits are crushed (psalm 31:18).

So remember friends, God’s got this. He loves you, he cares for you. He knows every strand of hair on your head. You are his child and he will never abandon you.
