Blessed Are . . .

I was sitting in bible study and my teacher was talking about the beatitudes. She said that this was one of her favorite chapters in the entire bible because it describes spiritual traits to happiness and the outcome. The greek work makarios, translating to blessed is defined as; happy, supremely blessed, well off.

So I decided to read through and do a little research myself. However, I looked at the entire bible, not just this one chapter to see where in the bible it mentioned makarios/blessed relating to traits or actions.

Blessed are the poor

"Blessed are the poor in spirit-for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" Matthew 5:3

Blessed are those who mourn

"Blessed are those who mourn- for they will be comforted" Matthew 5:4

Blessed are the meek

"Blessed are the meek- for they will inherit the earth" Matthew 5:5

Blessed are those who hunger & thirst for righteousness

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness- for they will be filled" Matthew 5:6

Blessed are the merciful

"Blessed are the merciful- for they shall obtain mercy" Matthew 5:7

Blessed are the pure in heart

"Blessed are the pure in heart- for they shall see God" Matthew 5:8

Blessed are the peacemakers

"Blessed are the peacemakers-for they shall be called sons of God" Matthew 5:9

Blessed are you when others persecute you

"Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake" Matthew 5:11

Blessed are those who obey

“Look, I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book” Revelation 22:7

Blessed are those who practice God's word

“Jesus replied, “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.” Luke 11:28

Blessed are those who believe without seeing
