Hiking with Toddlers+Baby

One of our favorite things to do is take a day trip up to Sedona and explore with our little ones! For those of you who don't know- we have 3 littles under the age of 3. Carter is 2.5, Adalynn is 1.5, and Kennedy is 3 months. Hiking with them isn't easy but it is so fun and we love getting outdoors and watching them explore new areas!

1. Wear your baby!

I think it is almost an obvious statement to say that you have to wear at least one of your children. Wearing Kennedy made it so much easier for me! I was able to keep my hands free and hold one of the older kiddos hands while we walked on rocky or uphill paths.

2. Bring lots of snacks and water!

We filled our backpack with snacks, water, and sandwiches! We knew that the kids would get hungry and we wanted to be prepared! The last thing you need is to be 30 minutes deep into a hike and have your kids starving!

3. Be prepared to take a lot of breaks!

Little ones have little legs, so if you aren't wearing all of your children then you need to remember that they will probably need to take a break twice as often as you do. Use these moments to look around and point out cool things you see!

4. Your little one might get tired- be prepared

Adalynn ended up needing to be carried the last stretch back to the car. We had brought another carrier for her but accidentally left it in the car. Your little one might get tired so be prepared to either strap them in a carrier or carry them the rest of the way.

One of the hikes we did was the Airport Lookout. It had an amazing lookout that was easily accessible from the parking lot, but the Overlook Point Trail hike was pretty rocky and made it more difficult on the kids. It did have some incredible views though!
