10 At Home Date Ideas
Dating your spouse is one of the best things you can do for your marriage. It can be hard sometimes to squeeze in a date night in the midst of work, kids, and responsibilities but it is so important to make time for each other! Once your kids leave, you are going to be all alone with your spouse again and you don't want to wake up one day and realize that you are complete strangers. This was one marriage advice we were given when we did pre-marriage counseling and it has stuck with me! Matt is and has been my best friend for the last 5 years, and 20 years from now, I plan on still being best friends. Date nights can be few and far between when you have young kids, but you don't have to go out to have a fun date night! Below I am sharing 10 of our favorite date night ideas that you can do at home after the kids have gone to bed so you don't need to stress over planning a date, hiring a babysitter, or spending a bunch of money going out.

1. Have a game night
Play your favorite board games, video games, or card games! Our personal favorites are Monopoly Empire and the card game 'Golf.' We also love playing spouse games that I find online such as the not-so newlywed game and spouse scattergories.
2. Have a movie night
Have the hubby pick up a redbox movie or find a movie on vudu that you both haven't seen yet, grab some popcorn and a cozy blanket, and snuggle on the couch. You can purchase a movie night care package here that comes with snacks and a redbox movie code!
3. Cook something
Find a new recipe (or an oldie but goodie) and make something together! Save time by ordering a meal through Blue Apron! They provide you with directions and all of the ingredients that are delivered right to your door! One thing Matt and I love making together is chocolate chip cookies!
You can sign up for a monthly subscription service and get a date night in a box every month! These boxes have a different theme each month and allow you to enjoy a date night in the comfort of your own home! You can read about our experience with Night in Boxes here!
5. Ice cream sundaes
Get your favorite ice creams, toppings, and don't forget the whipped cream! Create your favorite sundaes & go to town! Don't let the kids catch you eating ice cream after they're in bed or you might get a third wheel!
6. Living room picnic
Put a blanket and some pillows on the floor, light a few candles, and enjoy a romantic meal together!
7. Fondue Night
Grab some of your favorite dippers, the best chocolate, and enjoy!
8. Paint Night
Set up two canvas' and each paint something, or get one canvas and paint something together! Don't forget to put a tarp down or go outside just in case your husband likes to drip paint like mine does!
Give each other massages! I love foot massages and Matt is a sucker for back massages! I can always get a foot massage out of him in exchange for a back massage.
10. Stargazing in the backyard
Lay some blankets outside in the grass or snuggle on a comfy bench and look at the stars together. See who can find the most constellations.
I hope you and your hubby can squeeze in a stay at home date night sometime soon! They are so much fun and sometimes I prefer them over going out somewhere! What are some of your favorite at home date nights?
